Another three hour guitar session with Will tonite. We take an empty classroom, set up seats facing each other, and play melodies and chords until a groove appears, and then we follow it. He shreds on a beautiful black epiphone steel-string, and I play bar chords hard on my old lucida flamenco nylon-string. We often quiet down to intricate fingerpicking intertwining melodies and then back up to wild jamming.
Knowing dozens of grateful dead songs between us makes it easy to find a groove and settle into a song to sing and then wander elsewhere. Often a Phish or Beatles tune will arise from nowhere too. It’s way too much fun and i’m truly grateful to find a friend to do this with.
We settled on a couple of songs for the open mike next week; Help on the Way and Cassidy. Given our love for extended play, we imagine a big hook sweeping us off the stage when we blow past the ten-minute limit like a red Lamborghini (or a rusty old pickup truck?)
